About this song

This is a thank-you note to God.

In the more contemporary services at our church, we often include a "God at Work" time where members of the congregation share stories of God's influence on their lives as well as prayer requests. For the longest time, I didn't participate. I never felt I had anything important enough to say in the same context as folks talking about hospital stays or job trouble. I couldn't imagine that it could be of any value to anyone for me to stand up and praise God for health, family, a safe home or other "mundane" daily blessings.

Of course I was wrong about that but I still tend to defer to others during "God at Work" times. This song is a small attempt to atone for that.

I didn't set out to write some fancy mixed-meter thing. This is just one of those songs that wrote itself very quickly. I suspect that a regular beat might detract from the extemporaneous prayer-like feel.
