Light of the Lord
"It's a light for all creation and it won't go out"
Lyrics
When I listen to my heart
And leave all other messengers unheard
I seek comfort in His house
And wisdom in His word
When I listen to my heart
Reminding me my debt's already paid
I climb high upon His rock
And I am not afraid
Oh, in His stronghold
Oh, I'm alright
There's a light ever shining in the darkness
There's a light ever warm within my soul
There's a light filled with love coming down from above
It's too bright to be ignored - it's the light of the Lord
When I listen to my heart
I pray the Lord will guide me every day
And if my path is less than straight
His light will show the way
Oh, through His mercy
Oh, I'm alright
I will sing "Hallelujah", I will dance and shout
There's a light from my Creator and it won't go out
I will sing "Hallelujah", I will dance and shout
It's a light for all creation and it won't go out
I will sing, I will sing, I will sing…"Hallelujah!"
About this song
This is one of three songs that I wrote while participating in a short-lived Christian songwriters forum on the internet. To provide some inspiration, the participants agreed on a common goal - for this song, the goal was to write a song inspired by Psalm 27.
I really wanted to contribute to and support this forum so I kept at this task even though I simply wasn't getting anywhere. I didn't know what I could possibly do with all the "my enemies" and "my foes" language. Ultimately, I sort of cheated. I took the psalm's first line - "the Lord is my light and my salvation" - and wrote a song about that with nothing more than snippets ("set me high upon a rock", "lead me in a straight path") from the rest of the scripture. So saying that the song was "inspired by Psalm 27" is a bit of a stretch.
(If I remember correctly, I was the only one who got as far as a demo recording of a song for this challenge. The forum shut down shortly thereafter.)
Chords
I do this in Eb. I have chord charts in Eb [click], D [click] and C [click].
